| We all know a great speech when we hear one, but what makes a speech great? In this short course, students will learn how to recognize, plan, structure, research, write, and deliver memorable, effective speeches. We will also explore different types of speeches and the requirements for being a good speechwriter today – from working under pressure, to helping your message break through in a polarized world and fractured media environment. Students will leave with the tools they need to connect with any audience and tell a better story. |

| In this five-week practice lab, students will gain skills in Nonviolent Communication (NVC) useful for the resolution of all types of conflict. The basic tools include learning to observe without judgment, to notice the feelings and needs being expressed, and to learn to make effective requests. We will apply NVC both to social justice issues, conflicts, and our own lives. After learning the fundamental language of NVC conflict resolution, we will study the values of some great nonviolent thinkers such as Gandhi and King. We will draw all these resources into workshops on ongoing social issues. |
