We will then critically examine the applicability of conventional deterrence theory to contemporary American foreign policy and defense strategy. In particular, we will focus on the value of existing theory to the contemporary strategic environment, as well as the extent to which conventional deterrence theory affects American strategic decisions regarding force sufficiency, posture, and readiness.
