| | This is a practical course on fundraising for undergraduates. Participants will get an overview of fundraising theories and strategies and apply what they learn to raise money that another class at Batten will give away through a grant process. The beneficiaries of the grants are local nonprofits focused on one of three key areas: health, hunger, and housing. |

| | This discussion-based course focuses on a historical examination of child poverty, including the multi-layer effects of poverty on a child’s development. Students will discuss school reform efforts, such as “turnaround†schools, charter schools, implications of No Child Left Behind and the Every Student Succeeds Act, and teacher evaluations. Further, the barriers that have contributed to the failure of previous reform initiatives—barriers that include social isolation, violence, and the educational system itself—will be identified and analyzed in-depth. |
